Happy new year to our restless community and its supporters! We take the opportunity to look back at YPARD’s key achievements for 2016. A big thank you to all of you who made these possible. These are great and they are the hallmark of a truly engaged and dynamic network.

As the new year starts, 2017 marks changes in the YPARD Global communications team as Marina Cherbonnier, current communications and knowledge manager will be leaving. Emmie Kio Wachira is taking up the YPARD Communications management while Stacy Hammond is becoming the youth-leader communications officer.
We are delighted to welcome the new cohort of remote YPARD Web4Knowledge interns: Lemien Sakalunga (DRC Congo), Natalia Lozano (Peru) and former intern Husein Shahadu (Ghana) who renewed his term. They will support the strengthening of YPARD services in French, Spanish and English.
We are delighted to welcome the new YPARD Turkey Country representative Seher Gümüş.
In 2016, we designed a series of online hangouts for our country representatives all around the world to interact better among themselves as well as with the YPARD coordination units and the steering committee, to learn from each other.
As more and more organizations begin to explore how they can more strongly engage youth in their work, members of YPARD are continuously being approached to provide their experiences and insights to inform discussions and decision-making. Such was the case of researchers from CIMMYT who are exploring how they can best understand and provide the research to address issues related to youth in maize and wheat agri-food systems.
As a build up to the previous Global Landscape Forum (GLF)'s annual events, youth had an active and meaningful participation in the fourth GLF. Daniela Rivas tells us how her experience through three GLF empowered her as a young professional in landscapes.

The European Forum for Agricultural Research for Development (EFARD) invited a YPARD youth delegation to contribute to their annual meeting. "The passion and spontaneity evident in their presentations demonstrated how increasingly including young professionals is imperative for the future success of agricultural research for development and Users’-led research and innovation partnerships.", said EFARD.

Jim Cano attended the YPARD Asia Pacific Regional Executive Committee at the Fourth International Agronomy Congress, where a Special Session on “Youth and Agriculture: Challenges and Opportunities” was convened.
A group of motivated young professionals from different stakeholder groups in agriculture (university, private sector, national and international CSOs, research centre) from Myanmar met to discuss - in a first formal workshop - the creation of the YPARD Myanmar chapter.
Businesses need funding to survive but not everyone knows the necessary and the right procedures to follow in order to acquire the needed funding to start-up an enterprise. YPARD Nigeria filled this gap by organizing a workshop for the youth on funding practices in agriculture.
