I pledge to plant a tree as a legacy for a sustainable future

World Environment Day (WED) 2015

I believe that children and young persons should take action in their communities, villages, cities and that they can become critical drivers for change. Individuals should be encouraged to participate in a variety of activities that help protect, maintain and give back to the environment in which we all rely on for our survival.

World Environment Day is a United Nations initiative for raising awareness of the environment and encouraging global action against environmental change. WED continues to be a broad, global platform for public outreach that is widely celebrated in many countries. It also serves as the ‘people’s day’ for doing something positive for the environment, galvanizing individual actions into a collective power that generates an exponential positive impact on the planet.

This year, the theme is ‘Seven billion dreams. One Planet. Consume with care’, which highlights the increasing problem of humans’ growing global population and our overconsumption of the earth’s resources.

This theme addresses three main questions:

To celebrated World environment day 2015 students from the 4-H Club participated in a tree planting exercise at the Ministry of Food Production demonstration station located in Rajattan trace, Penal Trinidad. The primary school students where thoroughly engaged and with the assistance of staff planted many varieties of trees for example soursop, downs, plum an chenet.

The students were excited and willing to get their hands dirty. They placed the fruit tress into holes and covering them up with the prospect of returning to take care of them. Let us join and take example of these young students as they take initiative and become responsible for a greener tomorrow.

Initiative such as these that encourage young persons to activity take part in the preservation of their environment is what the nation and enlarge the world needs to adopt. A tree plant now can be a source of food or revenue for someone many many years in the future. We must understand the vital nexus between the environment and agriculture as we towards solving how we will feed a growing population. WED is the opportunity for everyone to realize the responsibility to care for the Earth and to become agents of change in their own environment.

Every Action Counts, what action are you taking today that will impact your tomorrow ?

“Although individual decisions may seem small in the face of global threats and trends, when billions of people join forces in common purpose, we can make a tremendous difference.”UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon

My pledge is to be an environmental solution rather than an environmental problem.

WHAT’S YOURS?
