Meet YPARD India working group!

The YPARD India working group was formally constituted in November 2013. The group is an interesting mix of globetrotting academics, researchers, development professionals and students. The group consists of 15 members from various states and agricultural universities of India. The profiles of all members can be found on YPARD and the purpose of this post is to give a short introduction to everyone in one place.

Yashpal Dr. Yashpal Singh Saharawat is the YPARD India representative. Dr. Saharawat is presently a Senior Scientist in the Division of Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry of the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), Pusa, New Delhi. Dr. Saharawat holds a Bachelors of Science in Agriculture from Rajasthan Agriculture, Bikaner and his Masters of Science in Agricultural Soil Science from CCS Haryana Agriculture University. He obtained his Ph.D. in Conservation Agriculture and Ground Water Modelling from the University of Hohenheim, Stuttgart, Germany and CCS Haryana Agriculture University, Hisar, Haryana. He was a post-doctorate fellow at the International Center for Soil Fertility and Agricultural Development (IFDC), Muscle Shoals, Alabama USA where he did research on Nutrient Management and Fertilizer Development. Later, he did another post-doctorate fellowship in Natural Resource Management and Crop Modelling from the International Rice Research Institute, Los Banos, Philippines. He has been involved with YPARD India from its 1st inception meeting held in New Delhi in 2006. He participated in the GCARD2, Punta del Este in Uruguay through YPARD in 2012. Dr. Saharawat plans to galvanize the activities of YPARD India to ensure faster delivery of initiative in India. He is currently plans to ensure the collaboration of YPARD with various Indian agriculture universities for the creation of local YPARD chapters.


Natalia P Hule holds a Masters in Environment specialization Sustainable Agriculture Development from the University of Paris South 11 and a Bachelors of Science in Agricultural Business Management from Dr. Balasaheb Sawant Konkan Krishi Vidyapeeth, Dapoli, Maharashtra. She is a former volunteer of the Food and Agriculture Organization, Rome, Italy. She has worked as a Programme Coordinator for the Mahila Kisan Sashaktikaran Pariyojana of the National Rural Livelihoods Misson in tribal districts of Madhya Pradesh with a NGO. Ms. Hule speaks Marathi, Hindi, English, French and Spanish. She is a blogger and writes about development issues in India. She is interested in promoting YPARD activities in India to tackle the problems of low self-esteem associated with studying agriculture, the perceived lack of career opportunities and a general disconnect between the job market and agriculture students in India. AmjadDr. Amjad Husaini is Assistant Professor (Senior Scale) at Centre for Plant Biotechnology, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology of Kashmir, India. He has edited / authored books entitled “Strawberry: Transgenics for stresses”, “Saffron”, “Medicinal Plants of the Himalayas: Advances and Insights”, “Genomics, Transgenics, Molecular Breeding and Biotechnology of Strawberry”, “Molecular Biotechnology: Basic Laboratory Protocols”, and published many research and review papers in journals of International repute. He has several Awards to his credit like Young Scientist Award in Agriculture 2009 (Government of J&K, India); Jawahar Lal Nehru Award for Agricultural Research-2008 (ICAR, India); Junior Scientist of the Year Award-2007 (NESA, India), Junior and Senior Research Fellowships of CSIR India. His biography has been included in 27th edition of Marquis Who’s Who in the World. SewetaDr. Seweta Shrivastava holds a Ph. D in Agricultural Plant Pathology from the Benarus Hindu University. She did her Masters in Agriculture Plant Pathology from the SamHigginBottom Institute of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences (formerly known as Allahabad Agriculture Institute – Deemed University. She obtained her Bachelors in Life Sciences from the M.J.P. Rohilkhand University, Bareilly. She is the technical editor of three Science Alert Journals viz. Asian Journal of Plant Pathology, Plant Pathology Journal, Research Journal of Seed Science. On many occasions, she has participated in various International and National workshops and conferences conducted by the Indian Agricultural Research Institute, SAARC, Benarus Hindu University, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel University of Agriculture and Technology and the Indian Institute of Sugarcane Research, Lucknow on subjects concerning plant pathology, biodiversity conservation, climate change, land use diversification and women in the sugarcane industry. MuthuveeranMuthuveeran is a development sociologist, currently working as Project Director for a Educational development programme at VIT University.  He did his Bachelors of Commerce and Masters in Social work with specialization of Community Development from University of Madras. He is presently working towards his PhD on skills development in rural areas.  Before his assignment at VIT, he worked for ICT4RD projects including IIT Madras, Tamil Nadu Voluntary Health Association and later at the M S Swaminathan Research Foundation - National Virtual Academy for Rural Prosperity. His association with YPARD started in 2006 and he became a YPARD volunteer. He has helped organize many regional level capacity building programmes, trainings, workshops, exposure visits for both ARD professionals and farmers at the grassroots level. Linkedin :

JvotsnaJyotsna Kaur Habibullah holds a MBA with 2 decades of experience in strategic marketing across different industries in managing brand building and development, Advertising, Marketing Alliances, Public Relations, Projects and Teams. I was part of the start up team for Air Arabia, the middle East's first low cost Airline, where I headed Marketing, and before that also launched Famous Grouse in India as Business Development Manager. For the last 3 years she is based in Lucknow, managing her family Mango Orchard in Saidanpur Village, Barabanki and also as Joint Secretary for Cheshire Home, Lucknow, working in Livelihoods for people with disability. In UP to promote Mangoes, she organised the first Mango farmers market and festival at the family orchard in June 2013 which brought together farmers, consumers, members of the press, government, institutions in research for agriculture.

PardeepDr. Pardeep K. Sagwal is a Ph.D. Scholar [Agronomy] at CCS Haryana Agriculture University, Hisar. He comes from a family of agriculturalists in Karnal, Haryana. He is presently working in association with CIMMYT India on "Conservation agriculture based climate smart practices for Carbon sequestration and mitigation of GHG emission from Rice-Wheat cropping systems”. In the past, Dr. Sagwal has worked for IFFCO, Axis Bank and Lovely Professional University. He wishes to contribute to youth engagement and empowerment in Agriculture for the promotion of sustainability in Indian agriculture.

Priyanka Singh is a fourth year student pursuing her Bachelors of Science in Agriculture from Kerala Agricultural University. She wants to work for the benefit and betterment of the farming community, the environment and those attached by any means to agriculture. She is an ICT enthusiast and considers technology as an important tool to engage the youth in agriculture and improve the status of agriculture as a career for youth.

PradiptaPradipta Ranjan Pradhan is from ICRISAT, Hyderabad. He has completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture from Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology (OUAT), Bhubaneswar. He has received both his Master of Science (as ICAR Junior Research Fellow) and Doctorate (as DST INSPIRE fellow) degrees in Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry from Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi. He is currently working as Visiting Scientist (Greenhouse Gas) at International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT), Patancheru, Hyderabad under CGIAR Research Program 7 – Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS).

RizvankhanDr. Rizvankhan S Ghasura is an Assistant Professor at Department of Veterinary Extension Vanbandhu College of Veterinary Science & A.H. Navsari Agricultural University .Navsari. Gujarat State. He has published many research and review papers in various peer revived journals. He was selected as a State Inspire Programmed by Gujarat Council of Science and Technology; Gandhinagar. In 2012, he was selected among Future Young Leaders and SAARC Delegates in the 2nd South Asian Youth Conference at Islamabad .Pakistan and was selected to Global Youth Culture Summit at Jakarta. Indonesia “UN-MDG 2015.” He was recently selected by the Al-Gore foundation to work in the Climate Reality Project to raise awareness about climate change and mitigation strategies in developing countries. His areas of research interest include Pre-Poor Livestock health care Policy in South Asia, Bio mimicry [Learn from Nature Solved Designing Problem], Climate Change and Mitigation Strategies in Livestock Sector, Disaster Management and ICT in Agriculture and Rural Development.

AdityaAditya is an Assistant Professor-cum-Junior Scientist in the Department of Extension Education, Bihar Agricultural College, Sabour. He is an IT enthusiast and loves to add technology in teaching and in his daily life. He is currently involved in a state funded project on catalyzing youth leadership for accelerated dissemination of agricultural information. He believes that only two things have the potential to change the world in the current age, the first is technology and the second is youth. In his free time, he blogs and engages in photography. PrabhatPrabhat Kumar Pankaj is a veterinarian working as Senior Scientist (LPM) at Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture. He did his B.V.Sc.&A.H. from Veterinary College, Jabalpur. Thereafter he obtqined his M.V.Sc. and Ph.D. from National Dairy Research Institute, Karnal. He has worked as Scientist at National Research Centre, Guwahati and joined CRIDA in recent past. SubashS.Subash is working as a Scientist Specialized in Dairy Extension at Southern Regional Station, National Dairy Research Institute (Indian Council of Agricultural Research - ICAR, New Delhi ) since 2009. He holds a B.Sc Agriculture from TNAU, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu and M.Sc and Ph.D in Dairy Extension from NDRI, Karnal. He has worked on ICT applications and is currently working on projects related to dairy entrepreneurship development among the farmers especially farm women. His association with YPARD India goes back to 2008 when he attended the one of the workshops at Vellore, Tamil Nadu.

VikasVikas Chaudhary is a farmer in Haryana, India. He produces and supplies seed for the IARI Regional Satiation in Karnal. Mr. Chaudhary hosts doctoral students on his farm in Karnal. . He is the founder of the ‘Society for conservation of Natural Resources & Empowering Rural Youth”. His success story with ‘conservation agriculture’ has been featured multiple times on the national agriculture show ‘Krishi Darshan’.


Jitender Singh holds a Bachelors and Masters of Science in Botany and a from Ch. Charan Singh University, Meerut, India. His Ph.D. was jointly awarded by the Ch. Charan Singh University and the Indian Agriculture Research Institute, New Delhi. He is an Assistant Professor of Immunology at the S.V. Patel University of Agriculture and Technology, Meerut, India. His research interests center on the diagnostics and molecular characterization of viruses and virus like diseases of horticultural crops.
