Welcoming YPARD France country representative: Margaux Jacob

JacobWe are delighted to welcome the new YPARD France representative Margaux Jacob.

Margaux is a graduate from the Faculty of Economics, University of Panthéon-Sorbonne, France with a Licence in Economics. Currently, she is pursuing her Master’s Degree in the Paris School of Economics and the Ecole Normale Supérieure. Her studies deal with the elaboration and the evaluation of Public Policies. Within her studies, she decided to link her two favourite subjects: agricultural and public development. Her goal is to work for an international organization to help in the fight of hunger and malnutrition.

Last year, she worked on a modelization project to understand how to improve agricultural efficiency using specific methods of crop rotations. It was a small project to be initiated to agricultural research. she and her team will have to present their project to famous researchers and defend their hypothesis. “ Thanks to my father and his farm, I can make this project more concrete. By his sides, I think about the farm organization to make it more efficient and more respectful of the environment. I also have a course about the benefits and drawbacks of public policies. I have now a critical point of view and it is always important to be nuanced. It is quite difficult to evaluate correctly the effects of public policies and I think it is important that experts exist in this area in the agricultural world”.

During her summer work, Margaux learned to manage an agricultural firm, where she learned that it is important to be aware of the problems and possible solutions. Through her familial environment, she finds the agrarian problematics to be very familiar. She is involved in a specific measure to reduce the emission of chemical substances. Thereby, it is quite natural for her to try and improve agricultural practices. She expresses that she “already have some concrete ideas and it is very enriching to have practical experiences. This makes it possible not to lose foot with the realities of the ground”.

During her upcoming school years, Margaux will continue to increase her knowledge of agricultural economics taking specifics courses. “My education gives me the keys to elaborate on public policies to help farmers take into account new environmental and profitability issues. I will also keep practical contacts with the agricultural world in France, thanks to my father and YPARD. I would like to broaden my horizon talking with people coming from all around the world. I think it is quite enriching and working together helps to improve the world we live in” she expressed.

She believes that it is important to understand how the youth senses the future of agriculture. In France, young people are disinterested in agriculture, thinking that it is an outdated profession. However. she thinks the youth have a considerable role to play. Better agricultural thinking will enable us to face the problems of the 21st century. Young people must invest in allowing this new agriculture to exist. They can understand contemporary issues and can meet the new standards of ecology, equity and efficiency. It is also important to develop new initiatives carried out by young people.

Margaux considers being a part of the YPARD team as a real honour and she is eager to invest herself in the best way possible to be able to carry out projects and hopes to help get things done, learn a lot and discover new people.

We also take this opportunity to thank the outgoing YPARD France representative Myriam Perez for her contributions, achievements and continued support.
