Welcoming YPARD Italy representative: Virginia Cravero

We are delighted to welcome our very first YPARD Country representative for Italy: Virginia Cravero.

 

Virginia is a Biologist specialized in bio-technology and agrifood, as well as in the development of traditional and local food products. She is passionate about food and all issues related to it. “Since I was little I experienced that food carries such pleasure that it was impossible for me to not be overwhelmed.”

 

Thus, after finishing her studies on Biology at the University of Barcelona, Virginia decided to increase her knowledge about agriculture enrolling herself in the Erasmus Mundus Master named Food Identity.

 

This 2 years’ experience allowed her to understand the importance of protecting and valorizing typical food as well as the necessity to transform food supply chains into sustainable food chains by improving farmers’ conditions.

 

Sustainable food value chains was the topic that she studied during one year at the Research Institute of Organic Agriculture (FiBL) in Switzerland. Through interviews with farmers, she realized the importance of young’s role in agriculture.  

 

In the same period, Virginia discovered that in her country, Italy, it exists a significant lack of coalition among young professionals implicated in agriculture. In order to solve that, one of her commitments through YPARD is to generate the link between young farmers, institutions and organizations such as Slow Food to start a strong and resilient network.

 

“I’m very much willing to include Italy in the YPARD network by helping Italian youth to better communicate with one another and with their institutions. The overarching goal is to create a strong network that can improve young farmers’ conditions by offering them the proper tools according to their different situations.”

 

We can’t wait to hear more from the Youth-in-Agriculture in Italy and we trust that YPARD Italy will be successful in mobilizing the youth through Virginia’s leadership.
