Africa’s population has been identified as the world's youngest and fastest-growing population. The continent does not only have a higher percentage of young people but it is predicted that there will
be over 350 million young people in Africa by 2050. Due to the prevalent challenge of hardship levels among the youth coupled with limited employment opportunities, there is an urgent need to strategize to improve chances for youth employment as a means to improve livelihoods in the region. And the agricultural sector which happens to be the largest sector in terms of employment of the populace is sure to be revolutionized if it effectively absorbs the youth.

In discussions on the challenge of sustainably engaging youth in agriculture, it cannot be overemphasized that the youth’s skills are crucial to the development and sustainability of the food systems. As such, it is important to explore ways of supporting young agricultural leaders in this respect through avenues such as various training and capacity development opportunities, facilitating access to capital, leveraging various innovative agricultural technology, and other areas.

This is the basis of YPARD, GFG and FARA’s focus on exploring ways to effectively engage with the youth in various forums to facilitate the creation of sustainable livelihoods for youth in agribusiness. YPARD Africa’s AgriYouth Africa Fora offer a platform for young professionals in agriculture to discuss strategies that would help them thrive as a network while recommending approaches to the personal development of youth in the sector to overcome their intrinsic and external challenges. It also offers an opportunity to gather the youth’s perspectives regarding their concerns, in the context of information, skills, and technology within their own countries.
