The International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) is seeking outstanding,
motivated candidates for the position of Durum Wheat Breeding and Germplasm
Enhancement, Post-Doctoral Fellow or Associate Scientist based on experience and
qualification. The position offers an outstanding career opportunity for a researcher interested
in global wheat research, and will be based at CIMMYT headquarters, near Mexico City,
Mexico. The position is available initially for 3 years. The successful candidate will work as a
member of "Durum Wheat Improvement" team, in CIMMYT´s Global Wheat Program, and
contribute to collaborative research at CIMMYT and with other institutions, on durum wheat
breeding and research emphasizing the widening of genetic variability for rust resistance in
durum wheat global germplasm. In addition to contributing to all aspect of global durum
wheat breeding, the successful candidate will conduct studies to characterize and start
utilizing novel sources of resistance to rust both from the existing improved germplasm and
genetic resources. Extensive travel to CIMMYT experimental stations in Mexico will be
required.
We are seeking candidates with the following qualifications:

A recent Ph.D. in plant breeding, genetics or pathology of wheat or other cereals

Experience with field based experimentation

Experience with field and greenhouse-based rust work

Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English

Ability to form part of an interdisciplinary team

Ability to work under multicultural setting

Experience in any of the following areas would be considered an asset:

Experience with molecular markers and genetic mapping in wheat or other cereals

Knowledge of Spanish
