Job Summary

The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) seeks a qualified person to be
appointed as a Research Fellow to a two year fixed term renewable appointment contract in
its Knowledge, Capacity, and Innovation (KCI) division. This position will be based in Addis
Ababa, Ethiopia.

The KCI division conducts scholarly research, capacity strengthening, and communications
activities to facilitate knowledge systems and promote organizational, institutional,
technological and policy innovations in developing-country food and agriculture value chains,
and to support IFPRI´s wider mission of providing sustainable solutions for ending hunger
and cutting poverty.

The successful candidate will work with other IFPRI researchers on a worldwide assessment
of extension, extension research and capacity strengthening in India and Ethiopia, and other
related research, capacity strengthening, and outreach.

Essential Duties:

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

a) Conducting research and data analysis in agricultural extension, education, and
capacity strengthening;
b) Conducting action research and other innovative and scholarly research and capacity
strengthening on topics related to knowledge management (KM) , extension, ICTs, and KM
portal development;
c) Contributing to the program´s learning and capacity strengthening activities;
d) Participating in other research, capacity strengthening, and communications activities
related to the priorities of the KCI division in particular and IFPRI in general.

He/she will work with a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural team of researchers, and is
expected to engage in a broad range of research projects and activities.

Required Qualifications

oPhD degree in agricultural extension or education, sociology; development studies,
or other appropriate disciplines.
oA minimum of three years´ experience in conducting research related to extension,
education, and innovation policy systems, or agriculture and rural development policy in or for
developing countries;
oRecognized expertise, and refereed publications in research areas related to the
position;
oExcellent analytical skills for qualitative and quantitative research;
oExcellence in oral and written English language;
oExcellent interpersonal skills and team spirit;
oAbility to work well in a multicultural environment and with individuals and
organizations from the public, private, and civil society sectors;
oAbility to take initiative and work with minimal supervision;
oAbility to travel extensively.
