Program Coordinator at IFPRI - Environment and Production Technology Division

The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) seeks a Program Coordinator for its Environment and Production Technology Division. This is a two-year, renewable appointment depending on performance and funding based at IFPRI headquarters in Washington, D.C.

This position will support the Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) Theme Leader for Theme 4.3: Refining frameworks for policy analysis. The position has a main focus of program/project management with research support duties included. Final grade level will be determined by demonstrated expertise and experience.

CCAFS (www.ccafs.cgiar.org) is a new major collaboration between the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR) and the Earth System Science Partnership, research communities, and their partners. Its research is aimed at overcoming the threats posed by climate change to achieving food security, and  enhancing livelihoods and environmental management in the developing world.
Part of the science leadership of this theme is based at IFPRI. Theme activities will be carried out globally and at locations initially in sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia.

Summary of Required Qualifications

  • Masters’ degree in agricultural or envrironmental economics, agricultural development, business administration, or equivalent.
  • Min. 3-5 yrs relevant work experience managing complex projects, with multiple partners and substantial budget, preferably in an international environment.
  • High level of competence in statistical software, mathematical modeling software, programming skills, databases, internet, email, spreadsheets, word processing, presentation packages. 
  • Knowledge of project management skills:  demonstrated experience in coordinating multiple project activities, deliverables and budgets.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English; excellent writing and editing skills
  • Demonstrated experience in interacting with stakeholders, preferably in an international environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate research that is relevant to development challenges and demonstrated ability to take initiative
  • Ability work independently and detail oriented
  • Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment; excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and implement workshops and training events.
  • Ability and willingness to travel nationally and internationally as necessary

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PMP (Project Management Professional) certification desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience in research proposal development desirable.
  • Familiarity with the CGIAR system considered a plus
  • Proficiency in a second language of the U.N. system
  • Good working knowledge of French or Spanish
