Program Associate at EcoAgriculture Partners

Support the work of the Landscapes for People, Food and Nature Initiative:

EcoAgriculture Partners is a non-profit organization, founded in 2002 and incorporated in 2005, that works internationally to support and promote the adoption of integrated agricultural landscape management approaches (“ecoagriculture”) that increase synergies between food production, ecosystem conservation, and rural livelihoods.
 
They build capacity and provide technical assistance for landscape initiatives involving agriculture and ecosystem management; conduct research to document impacts of integrated landscape approaches and the market innovations to support them; and support policy-makers to develop and implement effective approaches for sustainable, multi-functional rural landscapes.
 
In addition, EcoAgriculture Partners is a Co-Organizer and facilitator of the international Landscapes for People, Food and Nature Initiative, which aims to support and scale up the adoption of integrated agricultural landscape approaches worldwide to simultaneously meet goals for food production, ecosystem health and human well-being.

EcoAgriculture Partners seeks to hire a Program Associate to join their committed team in our Washington, DC headquarters.  The Program Associate will provide program support to EcoAgriculture’s work with the Biodiversity and Agricultural Commodities Program (BACP), provide research assistance and program support to EcoAgriculture’s Policy and Research Programs, and provide organizational and outreach support to the Landscapes for People, Food and Nature Initiative.
 
The Policy Program works to increase the adoption of ecoagriculture by influencing key policies, markets, and institutions, improving the conditions for ecoagriculture through direct advocacy and through the dissemination of policy analyses, options, and recommendations.
 
The Research Program works to improve the evidence base for ecoagriculture by identifying best practices, evaluating effectiveness, and assessing market and policy tools to mainstream whole landscape strategies.
 

Responsibilities:

Support EcoAgriculture's contribution to the BACP, an international project focused on improving the conservation outcomes of agricultural production systems for major commodity crops including palm oil, soybeans, sugar cane, and coffee. As part of this role, the Project Associate will work closely with the Project Manager to:
  • Manage an online monitoring and evaluation system (in excel) for tracking and analyzing project impacts at multiple scales;
  • Prepare progress reports, data summary sheets, and other outreach document
  • Support overall coordination for the program, including frequent correspondence with grantees, program staff and other stakeholders

Contribute to EcoAgriculture’s Policy and Research Programs to support integrated landscape management approaches worldwide:

  • Research, prepare and edit papers and reports
  • Review literature on scaling up and impacts of ecoagriculture innovations
  • Implement surveys to track progress in scaling up integrated landscape management;
  • Prepare Powerpoint presentations;
  • Coordinate meetings and workshops.

Support the work of the Landscapes for People, Food and Nature Initiative:

  • Schedule, coordinate and prepare for  meetings of the Landscapes Initiative Co-Organizers;
  • Support outreach activities of the Landscapes Initiative.

Required skills and experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of study related to agricultural economics, business, policy, international development, or environmental studies, plus 4 years of relevant professional work experience OR
  • Masters’ degree and at least two years of relevant professional work experience; 
  • Excellent English writing and editing skills;
  • Highly organized, with attention to detail; 
  • Experience and competence working in diverse teams;
  • Strong knowledge of excel and other data management systems;
  • Experience in international literature search;
  • Fully proficient with Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and others;
  • U.S. citizen, or legal resident of the United States with work permit;
  • Proactive, flexible and creative; 
  • Excellent communicator.

Desirable skills and experience:

  • Master’s  degree in a relevant field of study related to agricultural economics, business, policy, international development, or environmental studies;
  • At least one year of international project development and/or implementation field experience;
  • Knowledge of agro-ecosystems, agroforestry, and marketing systems in the tropics;
  • Expertise in one or more of the following areas:
  • Participatory action research 
  • Geographic Information Systems and spatial analysis;
  • Tropical biodiversity (in Latin America, Africa, or Southeast Asia);
  • Foreign language proficiency, especially in Spanish, Portuguese or Bahasa (Indonesia).

Salary and Benefits:

The annual salary range for this position is $37,000 to $45,000, depending on experience. Benefits include 29 days of annual and holiday leave, sick leave, health insurance, and retirement contribution. This is a full-time position based in Washington, DC and will begin as soon as possible.
