The EC makes grants to strengthen socioeconomic development and EU accession across the Western Balkans, focusing on energy and environment (among others). The environmental themes include energy efficiency, water supply, waste water, waste management, and emission controls. Grants and loans are available to public entities at central and local levels, and to agencies and companies responsible for public utilities and services, in the following countries: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, and Serbia. The application deadline is 19 September 2013.
