GFRAS Vacancy: Programme Officer

The Global Forum on Rural Advisory Services (GFRAS) seeks a qualified Programme Officer for the GFRAS Secretariat, based at Agridea in Lindau, Switzerland.

The Programme Officer reports directly to the GFRAS Executive Secretary who works in South Africa. He/she will be directly hired by AGRIDEA, the Swiss Association for the Development of Agriculture and Rural Areas (www.agridea.ch). Appropriate status to obtain a valid work permit according to current Swiss legislation is required. The final grade level will be determined by demonstrated experience and educational level.

Job Description

  • Maintain personal and organizational contacts with GFRAS members and affiliates
  • Assure communication (information, contacts, knowledge sharing)
  • Mobilise, motivate, and coordinate between stakeholders such as working groups, regional networks, and GFRAS secretariat
  • Prepare, conceptualise, organise, and coordinate network events or thematic discussions, especially the annual meeting
  • Coordinate and support organising committee and host to conceptualise and plan
  • Assure quality control of logistics & programmes
  • Perform administration and ensure logistics of the programmes
  • Contribute to strategic planning and management (including monitoring & evaluation) of GFRAS activities
  • Perform financial management of the programme
  • Contract and supervise service providers
  • Coordinate with the host organisation AGRIDEA
  • Represent GFRAS at various international events
  • Support the Executive Secretary as needed

Profile

  • Master’s degree in international cooperation, agricultural extension or agricultural education, or related field
  • Work experience in a developing country (minimum 6 months)
  • Knowledge of and experience in project management
  • Able to act in a team (interpersonal skills, cooperation, communication and mutual coaching)
  • Communication capacities (face to face as well as through Web-tools)
  • Analytical, strategic, independent and proactive thinking
  • Willingness to travel internationally (several times a year)
  • Languages required: Excellent grasp of oral and written English is a must. Candidate must also speak French or Spanish. Additional languages such as German, Portuguese, and Russian are an asset.
