Agricultural Officer P-2 at Plant Production and Protection Division, Rome - - - FAO

The Plant Production and Protection Division (AGP) promotes Sustainable Intensification of Crop Production. This requires the integration and harmonization of all appropriate crop production policies and practices aimed at increasing crop productivity in a sustainable manner, in order to eradicate hunger while preserving the natural resources and environment for future use. The post is located in the Secretariat of the Rotterdam Convention, one of six teams in the Division. The Rotterdam Convention on the Prior Informed Consent (PIC) Procedure for Certain Hazardous Chemicals and Pesticides in International Trade aims at protecting human health and the environment. Its Secretariat is jointly hosted by FAO and UNEP and provides support to countries to implement the Convention. The UNEP part of the Secretariat is also responsible for the Basel and Stockholm Conventions.

Key Functions 

  • Collects and analyzes relevant technical, social, economic, environmental, institutional and technology related information, data and/or statistics to support the delivery of programme projects, products and services 
  • Undertakes analysis, provides technical input for plans and reports and edits/revises technical/scientific documents 
  • Participates in the development of improved work methods, tools and systems 
  •  Updates databases and web pages. 
  •  Participates on multi-disciplinary project/work teams 
  • Collaborates in the development of training tools and materials and the organization of workshops/seminars etc. 
  • Participates in the organization, conduct and follow-up of meetings, consultations and conferences, the 
  • development/production of required materials and the provision of information and assistance to partners 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS 

  •  Advanced University Degree in Biological/Environmental Science or a related field 
  • Three years of relevant experience in supporting development and implementation of technical programmes/projects  relevant to pest or pesticide management) 
  • Working knowledge of English, French or Spanish and limited knowledge of one of the other two or Arabic, Chinese, Russian
