INTERNSHIP BACKGROUND

CTA hosts the Executive Secretariat for the European Forum on Agricultural Research for Development (EFARD). CTA is also a partner in the Platform for Africa-European Partnership on Agricultural Research for Development (PAEPARD) project.

EFARD, set up in 1998, was originally a forum for national agricultural research for development (ARD) fora to meet and has evolved to be an umbrella for European research and non-research stakeholders and networks of particular ARD stakeholder groups. EFARD has become the functional platform for Europe to fulfil its potential in the new ARD agenda which emphasises partnerships, multi-stakeholder involvement and participation to make ARD more results oriented and responsive to demand. At the global level EFARD represents the European constituency of the Global Forum on Agricultural Research (GFAR).

EFARD’s strategic objectives are:

  1. To encourage dialogue between European ARD stakeholders promoting awareness, innovative approaches and partnerships for ARD.
  2. To support global ARD initiatives within the framework of GFAR and the GCARD process.
  3. To promote inter-regional partnerships and collaborative ARD activities for joint research initiatives, capacity strengthening and greater impact.
