Google's "Little Box
Challenge" is a competition worldwide (with some exceptions) to
stimulate the creation of small power inverters. Inverters change
direct current to alternating current, and smaller inverters could help
bring electricity to
many people who dont have it. Google offers a prize fund of US$1
million to the winning team. Additionally, Google will make grants of
US$20 thousand to US$40 thousand on this topic to full-time faculty at
degree-granting universities. The deadline to register for the Little
Box Challenge is 30 September 2014, which is also the application
deadline for grants.
