Commemorating World Food Day 2025 with the Young Farmers Club at Ado Grammar School | YPARD Nigeria
November 23, 2025
In commemoration of World Food Day 2025, the YPARD Nigeria Ekiti team visited Ado Grammar School, Ado-Ekiti, to engage students on the themes of climate change, food systems and environmental sustainability. The event aimed to raise awareness among young learners about their roles in achieving a sustainable and food-secure future.
The outreach successfully reached over 200 students, who were divided into three sections according to their class levels to ensure effective participation and tailored discussions.
The first section (JSS 1 & 2) was led by Mr. Badeji Enoch, who sensitized the students on climate change and waste management. He explained the importance of proper waste disposal and how everyday actions can help reduce environmental pollution and protect our planet.
The second section (JSS 3 & SS 1) was facilitated by Mr. Bamidele Olajuyigbe, who spoke on climate change and biodiversity. His session emphasized the interconnection between biodiversity, healthy ecosystems and sustainable food production, inspiring students to value and protect their natural environment.
The third section (SS 2 & SS 3) was led by Ms. Adeleye Adeola, who focused on climate change and agriculture, where the discussion centered on the role of young people in promoting sustainable agricultural practices and tackling food insecurity through innovation and environmental consciousness.
An exciting discovery during the visit was that Ado Grammar School has an active Young Farmers Club, which aligns with YPARD’s mission to build youth capacity in agriculture. The team expressed interest in further collaboration with the club to implement future agricultural and environmental initiatives.
After the learning sessions, students participated in waste picking exercises around the school environment and enjoyed a nature sighting activity using binoculars, which helped them connect practically with nature and appreciate the importance of environmental conservation.
The event was both educational and inspiring, leaving a lasting impression on the students and the YPARD team alike. It provided a platform to promote climate education, environmental responsibility, and sustainable food systems among young people.
