A partnership agreement was signed in Kinshasa on April 22, 2022, between the Embassy of Sweden and the Consortium of 15 Congolese Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) represented by the New Congolese Civil Society (NSCC).

In the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), 15 Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) came together in the Democracy and Human Rights Consortium (CEACC, YPARD, DFDC, FEPER, ICDH, MUVEMA, REKAPI, CECMS, ELAEIS, Club des Jeunes Ambassadeurs, AFIA KWO WOTE, RRSSJ, RHA and BCBC) under the leadership of Nouvelle Société Civile Congolaise, to participate in the democratic debate and promote respect for human rights as fundamental principles of modern society. However, we cannot talk about democracy without referring to economic justice, the improvement of living conditions, especially for women and having a special focus on rural women and young people in the grip of poverty, inequality, gender-based violence, etc.

Through this program, the Embassy of Sweden would like to strengthen the capacities of Congolese CSOs and ensure the improvement of health, mutual governance, the promotion of democracy and women's economic rights. The program will also contribute to the dialogue between the rulers and the governed in 8 provinces: Kinshasa, Tshopo, Equateur, Kongo Central, Maindombe, Kasai Central, Kasai Oriental and Kwilu.

Young Professionals for Agricultural Development in the Democratic Republic of Congo (YPARD DRC), alongside 3 other CSOs (CEACC, DFDC and FEPER), will participate in trainings focused on protection of women's rights, reduction of sexual and gender-based violence, as well as on economic justice. Emphasis will be placed on rural women and youth.

This project will take place over the course of four years (2022-2026). YPARD DRC intends to carry out the following activities: the fight against gender-based violence including harassment, and sexual abuse(s) in the context of young (organizations); improving organizational health through the promotion of diversity and inclusion; the establishment of Listening Units to prevent gender-based violence in schools and youth organizations. YPARD DRC will contribute to the project by promoting Empowerment Self Defense (ESD) as a holistic approach to combat gender-based violence and support women's empowerment.

Given that the youth component is a key theme in this program to ensure justice/economic law for young people, a number of activities related to the promotion of agricultural governance through support for local youth initiatives will be carried out at the agro-ecological site of the Mvululu Center of Excellence, an innovative initiative of YPARD DRC.

This program is a first in the history of YPARD DRC as it will strengthen its operational and institutional capacities.
