VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT: Research Assistant

On behalf of IFPRI, Bioversity International is seeking a well qualified candidate for the position of Research Assistant. This position is located in Rome, Italy and the employer of record will be Bioversity International. All applicants must have EU work authorization. Bioversity International employment policies will be applied to this position. This is a locally recruited position and no relocation costs will be covered.

Essential Duties:
Under the direction of the ASTI Program Head and Coordinator, the Research Assistant will be responsible for:
· Assisting senior staff with the maintenance of the ASTI database, specifically for sub-
Saharan Africa and South Asia which includes the collection, input, and processing of
data on national agricultural research systems;
· Assisting in implementation of surveys in collaboration with local and regional counterparts, screening and inputting of data, constructing tables and graphs;
· Preparing short statistical country fact sheets and regional overviews;
· Preparing annotated bibliographies and abstracts of relevant documentation and
evaluating data sources for entry into project databases;
· Assisting senior staff with the maintenance and expansion of the ASTI website;
· Other duties as mutually agreed.

Minimum qualifications and competencies:
· Relevant university degree or equivalent qualifications.
· Minimum of 3 years' relevant experience, preferably in an international working
· environment.
· Experience with policy research and data on food and agricultural innovation systems
data.
· High level of competency and strong interest in working with economic data.
· Strong computing skills in relevant software packages (Microsoft Word, Excel, and
PowerPoint) as well as strong knowledge of web navigation.
· Knowledge of major statistical software packages such as STATA or SAS and
mathematical program such as GAMS.
· Strong interpersonal, communications and teamwork skills; courtesy, tact and the
ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with people of cultural
and national backgrounds
· Well developed analytical and synthesizing skills with the ability to write clearly and
concisely.
· Well developed administrative, personal organization and priority setting skills.
· Excellent command of the English language, both written and spoken; working
knowledge of French, both written and spoken would be an advantage.
· Sound judgment and initiative; ability to work with a high degree of independence
within assigned areas.
· Demonstrates innovation and creativity.
· Demonstrates adaptability and flexibility.

Terms and conditions:
This is a locally recruited professional position and all benefits are denominated and paid in EURO. The salary is level 5, in a scale of eight levels, with level 8 being the highest. The salary range starts from Euro 37,689 per annum. Bioversity's remuneration package includes a competitive salary, leave provisions and medical insurance. As this is a locally recruited position, relocation costs are not covered. The initial contract will be for a period of two years, renewable, subject to a probationary period of twelve months.
