Post doctoral data analyst: Forests and climate change

The Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) advances human wellbeing, environmental conservation and equity by conducting research to inform policies and practices that affect forests in developing countries. CIFOR is looking for a Post Doctoral/Research Fellow, Researcher/Data Analyst on forests and climate change The Post Doctoral/Research Fellow will be responsible for management of a global database on projects related to Reduced Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation (REDD). The database project is housed in Component 2 (on REDD demonstration sites) in CIFOR’s Global Comparative Study on REDD+.

Responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities · Manage the database of Component 2 of CIFOR’s Global Comparative Study on REDD+ · Conduct comparative research across 24 REDD+ project sites in six countries (Brazil, Peru, Cameroon, Tanzania, Indonesia and Vietnam) · Assist country teams in conducting research · Produce journal articles in collaboration with Component 2 team members · Share project administration and management responsibilities with Component 2 Leader. Details of duties, assignments and objectives will be further discussed and laid out in the staff’s annual performance contract.

Experience Required

Requirements Education, experience and technical skills · PhD in a topic related to forestry, the environment or natural resources management · Strong background and skills in quantitative/statistical analysis · Indication of good publication record or promising potential · Experience in managing large databases · Previous research on forests and climate change preferred · Some familiarity with GIS/remote sensing analysis preferred · Excellent spoken and written English. Ability in one other international language (e.g. French, Portuguese, Spanish or Indonesian) is an advantage. Personal attributes and competencies · Good organisational skills, priority setting and ability in managing multiple tasks · Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with people in a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural environment · Able to work independently as well as in a team environment · Values the sharing of information and continuous improvement in a cooperative atmosphere of constructive evaluation and learning, and is committed to staff development.
Salary Benefits

Terms and conditions · This is an internationally recruited position. CIFOR offers a competitive remuneration in US dollars commensurate with skills and experience. · The appointment will be for a period of one year with a possibility of extension contingent upon performance, continued relevance of the position and available resources. · The duty station will be at CIFOR headquarters in Bogor, Indonesia.
