The Syngenta Foundation for Sustainable Agriculture has an opening for a research assistant or research analyst to support senior staff and the Executive Director in a range of research and analytical tasks. This is an opportunity for an exceptionally talented young professional wishing to embark on a career in international agriculture.
The role includes: Research assistance and analytical contributions in sustainable agricultural intensification and natural resource management; development and maintenance/updating of data sets; scanning of professional literature on issues of relevance to the Foundation; quantitative analysis and production of written output and presentations, including creative visualization; development of frameworks for Foundation investments; monitoring & evaluation and operational support.
Requirements: The requirements include: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in agriculture or life sciences, natural resource or agricultural economics, or other relevant field; good grasp of issues and challenges facing smallholder agriculture in developing countries; demonstrated research capability, including an ability to work with large data sets and handle complex assignments; flexibility and strong teamwork; written and spoken fluency in English. Other relevant language skills are a major asset.
A valid residence and work permit for Switzerland, or be entitled under an international treaty to obtain such (e. g. EU bilateral treaty) is required.
The position is based in Basel, Switzerland, initially for one year. Start: 1st June 2012
