Research Assistant for Food Security Programme -- ECDPM

ECDPM aims to strengthen the interaction with its partners in Africa and the Caribbean and to explore new opportunities and innovative approaches for collaboration. In that context, the centre has launched the Young International Professionals Programme (YIPP) to recruit more non-European young professionals.

ECDPM is looking for a young African professional with at least one year’s relevant work experience and recent postgraduate qualification in agricultural economics, international economics, development studies or other related social science and a keen interest in the area of food security in developing countries, rural economic development, regional integration processes in Africa and the political economy of economic reforms and agricultural development.The Food Security programme covers topics linked to:

ECDPM is looking for a young African professional with at least one year’s relevant work experience and recent postgraduate qualification in agricultural economics, international economics, development studies or other related social science and a keen interest in the area of food security in developing countries, rural economic development, regional integration processes in Africa and the political economy of economic reforms and agricultural development.The Food Security programme covers topics linked to:

  •  Regional and local markets for agriculture and food security
  • Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP)
  •  Policy coherence for Food Security

The candidate will be a diligent researcher, and an excellent and proven writer in English and have the ability to work in French (fluency in French would be considered a distinct advantage). The candidate will have a competence and keen interest in development issues, and particularly in the international food security debates and role of regional and international agricultural markets; good understanding of the CAADP, and EU’s relations with Africa and the ACP would be an advantage. Candidates should look at the work of ECDPM’s Food Security Programme on the website www.ecdpm.org/foodsecurity to see if it is the kind of themes and issues that motivates them. The successful candidate would be a full member of the Food Security team and join a wider group of young professionals working as YIPPs, Research Assistants and Junior Policy Officers based at ECDPM’s Maastricht office in the Netherlands.
