The Building Women & Youth-led Network Alliances for Agroecology and Organic Agriculture (BWYNAAO) Programme invites applications for six Community Solutions Interns or Fellows to join a transformative initiative that promotes agroecology and organic agriculture across Africa.


This programme is a collaboration between the Young Professionals for Agricultural Development (YPARD), Participatory Ecological Land Use Management (PELUM) Kenya, African Green Store Network (AGSN), and the Knowledge Centre for Organic Agriculture and Agroecology (KCOA), funded by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). It aims to empower youth and women as leaders in sustainable agrifood systems through entrepreneurship, capacity building, knowledge exchange, and network linkages.

What are Community Solutions Projects?

Community Solutions Projects in agroecology or organic agriculture are initiatives that respond to specific local needs of a community. They can include sustainable farming practices, SME development, and community resilience. Examples of existing projects include:
1. Mushroom farming with young women in Benin
2. Organic fertiliser production in Tanzania
3. Rural Grown Farms in Eswatini
4. Tilapia fish production in DRC

The BWYNAAO Programme aims to support the development of new Community Solution Project ideas or the scaling of existing projects. The internship or fellowship will run for 10 months, from September 2025 through June 2026. The commitment expected is approximately 16 to 20 hours per month.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Age: 18–35, with an active community project or idea to develop during the program.
  • Education: Interns must be enrolled in agriculture, agribusiness, environment, or related studies; Fellows must have completed formal education and seek careers in agroecology/organic farming.
  • Interest: Strong motivation for agroecology, organic agriculture, or sustainable food systems; prior experience helpful but not required.
  • Location: Must reside in Africa, preferably in KCOA countries (Kenya, Uganda, Nigeria, Cameroon, Benin) or other Sub-Saharan nations.
  • Language & Skills: English and/or French required; local languages an asset. Basic project management, communication, digital tool use, and reliable internet needed. Must commit to full program.
  • Inclusivity: Women, Indigenous youth, rural populations, persons with disabilities, and those facing systemic barriers are strongly encouraged to apply.
