En Cochabamba y La Paz, jóvenes se reunieron para el lanzamiento de YPARD Bolivia. Estos encuentros marcaron un momento clave para fortalecer el liderazgo juvenil en el desarrollo agrario rural y los sistemas agroalimentarios sostenibles en Bolivia.
El capítulo nacional fue presentado a través de dos eventos: el 27 de junio en La Paz, en la Universidad Mayor de San Andrés (UMSA); y el 30 de junio en Cochabamba, en la Universidad Católica Boliviana.
Ambas actividades se desarrollaron en el marco del proyecto “Redes YPARD en Acción”, impulsado por YPARD Perú y financiado por la Fundación McKnight, con el objetivo de fortalecer la participación juvenil en Bolivia y Ecuador.
La Paz da la bienvenida al nuevo capítulo nacional de YPARD
El evento en La Paz inició con las palabras de bienvenida del Decano de la Facultad de Agronomía, Paulino Ruiz. Posteriormente, se compartieron los saludos de Genna Tesdall, Directora de YPARD Global, y Sebastián Pedraza, Coordinador de YPARD Latinoamérica y el Caribe.
Desde YPARD LAC, Marcelita Ponce de León y Eliana Antezana presentaron el proyecto "Redes YPARD en Acción". A continuación, George Mérida y Rocío Cruz, representantes nacionales de YPARD Bolivia, compartieron la visión del nuevo capítulo, seguida de la presentación del equipo de coordinadores de área.
Encuentro en Cochabamba: juventudes, investigación y redes territoriales
En Cochabamba, Andrea Alemán y Andrea Vargas, de la Universidad Católica Boliviana "San Pablo" compartieron reflexiones sobre el trabajo con juventudes desde la investigación y la comunicación.
Andrea Vargas reflexionó sobre el rol de la juventud rural desde su experiencia investigativa, destacando su capacidad de agencia y decisión en un contexto cambiante. Subrayó que las y los jóvenes no solo son agentes de cambio, sino también protagonistas en la construcción de su propio destino y el de sus comunidades: “La juventud rural puede asegurar que su familia siga siendo rural, pero en sus propios términos, teniendo más herramientas en un mundo globalizado”.
Luego, Gabriela Rodriguez (Fundación Gaia Pacha), Jorge Blajos explicaron la importancia de trabajar con juventudes. Marisa Paredes (Fundación PROINPA) y Ramiro Lobatón (CICS-UCB), presentaron el Mapeo de organizaciones que trabajan con juventudes en Bolivia 2024-2025. Esta herramienta busca visibilizar las iniciativas ya existentes en los territorios.
Asimismo, se tuvo los saludos regionales de YPARD LAC y YPARD Global, así como la presentación del proyecto “Redes YPARD en Acción”. Luego, se tuvo la presentación del equipo del capítulo boliviano donde George Mérida, representante de YPARD Bolivia, compartió cómo se conforma la red y quiénes la integran:
“Para mí es un honor y un gusto representar al capítulo boliviano de YPARD. Actualmente, contamos con una mayor participación de voluntarios en La Paz y Cochabamba, pero también tenemos presencia en Potosí y Oruro, y nuestro objetivo es consolidarnos en todos los departamentos del país. Nuestra estructura se organiza en cuatro áreas, todas lideradas por mujeres, lo que refleja el fuerte empoderamiento femenino dentro de nuestra red.”
Desde la co-representación nacional, Rocío Fátima Cruz Huanca también compartió su visión sobre el trabajo con juventudes rurales en Bolivia: “Aspiro a transformar los desafíos que enfrenta la juventud en oportunidades, por medio de la consolidación de un equipo comprometido con el desarrollo agrario rural en Bolivia.”
Ambos eventos contaron con el respaldo de instituciones aliadas: la Fundación PROINPA, la Facultad de Agronomía de la UMSA, la Universidad Católica Boliviana (UCB) y la Fundación Gaia Pacha, con quienes se continuará trabajando para involucrar a jóvenes de diversos territorios interesados en el desarrollo agrario rural.
A través de estos espacios, YPARD Bolivia se integra a la red global de YPARD, presente en América Latina y el Caribe, Asia y África, promoviendo la participación juvenil como motor de transformación hacia un desarrollo agrario rural justo, sostenible y con oportunidades para las nuevas generaciones.

In Cochabamba and La Paz, young people came together for the official launch of YPARD Bolivia. These gatherings marked a key milestone in strengthening youth leadership in rural agricultural development and sustainable agri-food systems in Bolivia.
The national chapter was launched through two events: on June 27 in La Paz, at the Universidad Mayor de San Andrés (UMSA); and on June 30 in Cochabamba, at the Bolivian Catholic University.
Both events were held within the framework of the project “YPARD Networks in Action”, led by YPARD Peru and funded by the McKnight Foundation, with the goal of strengthening youth participation in Bolivia and Ecuador.
The La Paz event began with opening remarks from the Dean of the Faculty of Agronomy (UMSA), Paulino Ruiz. Greetings followed from Genna Tesdall, Director of YPARD Global, and Sebastián Pedraza, Regional Coordinator for YPARD Latin America and the Caribbean.
From YPARD LAC, Marcelita Ponce de León and Eliana Antezana presented the “YPARD Networks in Action” project. Then, national representatives George Mérida and Rocío Cruz shared the vision for the Bolivian chapter, followed by the presentation of the coordination team for the four working areas.
In Cochabamba, Andrea Alemán and Andrea Vargas, from the Bolivian Catholic University “San Pablo”, shared reflections on working with youth through research and communication.
Andrea Vargas emphasized the role of rural youth from her research perspective, highlighting their agency and decision-making capacity in a changing world. She emphasized that youth are not only change-makers but also protagonists in shaping their own futures and communities:
“Rural youth can ensure that their families remain rural, but on their own terms, with more tools in a globalized world.”
Later, Gabriela Rodríguez (Gaia Pacha Foundation) and Jorge Blajos discussed the importance of working with young people. Marisa Paredes (PROINPA Foundation) and Ramiro Lobatón (CICS-UCB) presented the Mapping of Organizations Working with Youth in Bolivia 2024–2025, a tool aimed at making visible the initiatives already active in different territories.
Regional greetings from YPARD LAC and YPARD Global were also shared, followed by the introduction of the YPARD Bolivia national team. George Mérida, national representative, shared how the chapter is structured and its current members.
“It is an honor and a pleasure to represent the Bolivian chapter of YPARD. While most of our volunteers are currently based in La Paz and Cochabamba, we also have a presence in Potosí and Oruro. Our goal is to establish YPARD in every department of the country. Our structure is divided into four working areas—all led by women—reflecting the strong presence and empowerment of women within our network.”
As national co-representative of YPARD Bolivia, Rocío Fátima Cruz Huanca also shared her perspective:
“I aspire to turn the challenges faced by youth into opportunities by building a team committed to rural agricultural development in Bolivia.”
Both events were supported by key institutional partners: PROINPA Foundation, the Faculty of Agronomy at UMSA, the Bolivian Catholic University, and the Gaia Pacha Foundation—with whom YPARD Bolivia will continue to collaborate to engage young people from diverse territories in rural agricultural development.
Through these efforts, YPARD Bolivia becomes part of the global YPARD network, which operates in Latin America and the Caribbean, Asia, and Africa. The chapter promotes youth participation as a driving force for building a rural agricultural sector that is fair, sustainable, and full of opportunities for future generations.
